This post is about the The Pond Project. Remember way back in 2020 when we dug up a fish pond in a friends yard, and moved it to the Birch house? After several days of digging it out and hauling the rock, we discovered there were five other fish in the bottom of the pond, in the sludge.
After relocating the fish to PPC Jacki's fish pond, we kept the large Koi, and two large orange goldfish. Obviously male and female given the was he relentlessly chased her around. During winter, the fish went dormant and were mostly unseen, but as the sun reappeared in the spring, they too came alive. Dave had cleaned the pod filter several times during the winter, but when the sun came out, so did the algae. We have been exploring the idea of a larger pump for better circulation, and to keep the algae down.
This last week, we went to clean the filter again and order a pump when we found a small goldfish frye furtively swimming around. A few days later, after extensive research, we decided it'd still be best to clean the filter. Unfortunately, we found a frye in it. Assuming it had been the little fellow we had spotted, we were a little disheartened. But then...
We installed the fish tower, and the gold fish came up to check it out, which is always fun to watch
The following morning, at feeding time, we noticed another guest in the tower, and have since counted three of these fellas, all about the same size.
Its super exciting to see the Birch family growing, with the addition of the two chicks, and three little fish ( though we suspect there may be more!). Stay posted for updates the in the BLOG project!
