Us project people are really excited to get to work on this old 1920's bungalow basement. Rumor has it, if rumor is to be believed, at one point this was a 'halfway house' for the recently incarcerated. Several rooms were added to the basement, including a bathroom, and kitchen. After the current homeowner bought the home, he had the kitchen removed because the plumbing was not installed correctly. During the latest winter freeze, the pipes in the laundry room above burst, resulting in a flood. We had the water mitigated, and all of the carpet and lower wall sheetrock removed. We also did a redesign of the space, once we realized the previous tenant had been using the back room as the bedroom. The back room has two circuit breaker boxes, is completely encased in concrete and had no second egress. With several of the project people having served in the fire service, and fought fire in many basements, there was no question that this room would not be a bedroom ever again. Our redesign makes the space not only safer and livable, it is far more user friendly, while taking into consideration upstairs noise. Before, the 'bedroom' space was directly underneath the front door, where the two large dogs living upstairs will pace and bark when anyone walks by. We have relocated the bedroom on our new plan and stacked the daily living spaces over one another, hopefully providing a far quieter sleeping space. The plumbing relocation has been approved and completed, with any electrical moves up next. This is an out-of-town project for us, requiring schedule coordination. This is a complete renovation of an 820 sq ft, concrete and brick basement. The build out is expected to take multiple weekends, but hopefully complete by mid-June. Watch for updates including custom made fixtures, repurposed lighting, new flooring, ceiling treatment, tile, and epoxy work. So excited to be working on this project!
