Every once in a while something new or exciting happens with one of our projects, and it requires an update- but not necessarily a whole new project page. This prompted an update blot.
This update is about the fish pond, which is not quite a year old yet. Remember waaaay back in 2020 when we dug up an old fish pond that was in a friends rental house yard?
After hauling it to the Birch house, and digging out a whole new shape, we discovered that several fish had come with the pond. Specifically one very large orange and white koi, and two fat orange gold fish. Obviously a male and female by the way he chased her around.

During the winter, they went dormant and almost unseen. But as the sun reappeared this spring, they too came alive. Dave had cleaned the filter several times during the winter, but as the sun shined warmly, the algae has begun to grow. Dave and Krista have been exploring the idea of a larger pump to keep better circulation and keep the algae down.
This week, as Krista installed the viewing tower, she noticed babies(!) in the algae. Specifically, goldfish frye.

Given the news of the new addition(s), the larger pump as well as the cleaning, have been delayed until the frye have been given a chance to get bigger. Currently they're hiding out under the waterfall.
That aside, remember last year when everyone doubted the fish towers Krista put in? And then the fish loved them, an entertained people for hours?

Even with the cloudy water, when the towers were installed, the fish came looking this week.
