We started cleaning up the fence line in the winter of 2020 by replacing the south fence. Dave already plans for multiple types of garden cultivation this year, focusing on the southern yard.
We try to be conscious of plant life, and replant or relocate when we can. This big Palo Verde in the corner was beautiful, and even bloomed last year, but it blocked quite a bit of the sun and needed a new home. We decided it might be a good screen for the northern yard space, and situated it near the new brick garden bed for Maggie the Magnolia, that we acquired a year and a half ago.
We use Pinterest often for ideas and remedies . Greg pulled this image as a base idea for the Glass House. We hope to mirror the pitch of the apartment and do a barn door slider type entry that is similar in look the the greenhouse dutch door. Rounded supports will be used in place of the cross member supports, and 4x4s will be used as rafters.

The supports have been rounded out to add character and strength.
The 4x4 beams are stained and sealed with a product that has a fish oil base. The pitch of the glass roof was designed to match the pitch of the bungalow, to keep things design consistent.
The single pane tempered glass for the roof top came was repurposed from Carl's old hot tub house, in which he used the repurposed glass from patio doors. His wife Audrey generously let us store these sheets of glass in her garage for well over six years. It's good to have good friends.

The plan for the Glass House will be perfect for sitting and watching the stars, or a hammock rest after a long day in the garden. The south wall will serve as a hot house green house window, with plants and shelving absorbing the warm south sun.
For privacy concerns, it was decided that the same 3/4x3/4 slats that were repurposed in the greenhouse would be a nice tasteful window treatment. The windows behind were given a light obscuring treatment before the slats were applied.
Hops and Grapes were planted on either side of the tunnel trellace, which will help with the privacy issues as well.
The red lava rock made the cut and was washed and condensed. The long term plan is to replace it with river rock pebbles, so we lined the new path with the river rock and added 18" exposed aggregate paving stones
Now we just wait for the fence to come alive around it.
UPDATE 2022
The grape vines have gone crazy this year, growing clusters even IN the glass house!
