the acid concrete project
Once upon a time, at the ziplines...

In December 2018 we were flattered to be asked to do a floor treatment similar that we had done in the The Uptown project and the The Serendipity project. Dave and Krista had both worked for the ziplines as guides, and Greg had been featured in their advertising. They all consider the owners of the adventure park, Dave and Lancey, to be friends.
Dave and Lancey were closing their popular business, and taking their family on a well deserved vacation.
Dave, Krista and Greg, were tasked with doing the acid staining during the week that they were gone.
A decade ago, the beautiful and massive building had been Dave's shop. The concrete floors were stained with machine oil.
We steam mopped the floor after routine sweeping. Then located each stain of concern and treated it with muriatic acid. It brought oil from the porous concrete to the surface for cleaning.

Before applying any acid- tape off a minimum of six inches at the base of the wall. This acid will stain everything- sheetrock, wallpaper, and wood paneling.
We use standard hand pump sprayers, each with a different color acid ( should the client choose).
We first agree to a pattern and color contrast. Making certain we are clear on where to apply what. We do an all over thin coat of acid on fine spray to cover the porous gray of the concrete.

Fortunately they had chosen earthy tones for the stain colors. It was forgiving in that should small patches of oil staining be missed, it looked intentional in the swirled pattern of colors.

Sadly, this structure burnt to the ground in February of 2023
